How to install Linux apps with Flatpak
Flatpak installs apps from Flathub that work on any Linux distribution. Set it up once, then install anything with a single command.
By the Flatnic team ·
Flatpak is a way to install Linux apps that run the same on any distribution — Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, Arch and the rest. The apps come from Flathub, a trusted central store, and each runs in a sandbox. Every app on this site shows its exact install command.
Set up Flatpak (once)
Many distributions already include Flatpak. If not, install it with your package manager, then add the Flathub repository:
sudo apt install flatpak # Debian/Ubuntu (or dnf/pacman on others)
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepoLog out and back in (or reboot) the first time so your system picks up Flatpak apps.
Install and manage apps
- flatpak install flathub org.gimp.GIMP — install an app by its ID
- flatpak update — update everything
- flatpak uninstall org.gimp.GIMP — remove it
- flatpak list — see what's installed
Prefer clicking? Install the GNOME Software or KDE Discover app store, add Flathub, and you can install everything with a button.
